How to get more Google reviews
Reviews build month by month. The businesses that ask every customer, the right way, get a steady flow. Here's how.
Why reviews matter
Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help your local ranking. (Source: Google Business Profile Help.) AI tools read your reviews too when they decide who to name.
1. Get your review link
Your Google Business Profile has an option to ask customers for reviews. It gives you a short link that takes them straight to the review box. Google changes its button names often, so look for the option to ask for reviews on your profile.
2. Ask every customer
Not just the happy ones. Fill in the brackets and copy these:
Text after a job or visit: "Hi [name], thanks for choosing [business]. If you have a minute, we'd appreciate an honest review: [link]. Thank you! – [your name]"
Email: Subject: "How did we do?" "Hi [name], thanks for choosing [business]. If you have a minute, we'd appreciate an honest review on Google: [link]. It helps other people find us. Thank you, [your name]"
In person: "If you get a minute, we'd appreciate an honest review on Google. Can I text you the link?"
Receipt or card: "Tell others about your experience: [link]"
3. Make it easy
Turn your review link into a QR code for receipts, cards or the counter, so customers can scan it instead of typing it.
4. Reply to reviews
Good review: "Thanks, [name]! We appreciate you trusting us with [the job / your visit]. – [your name]"
Bad review: "[name], I'm sorry this happened. We want to make it right. Please call me at [phone]. – [your name]"
Never argue in a reply, and never share private details.
What Google doesn't allow
- No gifts, discounts, money or freebies in exchange for a review.
- Don't ask only the happy customers. Ask everyone.
- Never write or post a review for yourself, and never have friends or staff do it.
- Don't pressure people on the spot, and don't tell them what to write.
- No review quotas for staff.
